Bushwalking in Perth

Bushwalking in Perth National Parks

I’ve been bushwalking in Perth! I absolutely love walking and being in amongst nature and there are some stunning locations for this in Perth. In particular I have been to the National Parks of Yanchep and Serpentine.

I reckon that Yanchep is better for flatter, slightly easier walking, although both National Parks have significant hiking options. Yanchep also has a reserve for koalas, and is the first place I saw a kangaroo. So now I’ve seen all three ks: koalas, kangaroos and kookaburras! Visiting Fremantle: a happy city with an awesome vibe

Ah Fremantle. This place is significant to me because it was the first time in Australia that I properly struck out on my own. I stayed two nights at Pirates Backpackers in Fremantle, met some awesome people, went on mini roadtrip and basically had the best time! Honestly there were moments visiting Fremantle when I just could not believe where I was. I was happy personified. Continue reading “Visiting Fremantle: a happy city with an awesome vibe”

Cycling Rottnest Island and meeting the quokkas

One of my favourite days in Australia so far. Cycling Rottnest Island was something I desperately wanted to do even back in England, and everyone here told me it was an absolute must do. I was not disappointed. This island is an incredibly popular tourist destination thanks in part to the quokka.

An incredibly cute creature, this furry marsupial was originally mistake for a large rat by the original European visitors. Hence the name Rottnest (translated from Dutch to Rat’s Nest). The popularity of the quokka selfie has helped boost tourism to this island and fund maintenance of their stunning home. Continue reading “Cycling Rottnest Island and meeting the quokkas”

Exploring central Perth and the beautiful King’s Park

Last week there was some proper storms going on here in Perth. However the weather came through for me and I was able to explore the stunning King’s Park botanical gardens. Very close to the City Centre, this a quick bus ride from Elizabeth Quay. It should be top of your bucket list for exploring central Perth!

Here’s how I spent my time exploring the park and the Northbridge suburb of central Perth: Continue reading “Exploring central Perth and the beautiful King’s Park”

Welcome to Perth: northern suburbs and the Swan Valley

So I’ve had my first three days in Australia! I’m living a rather unlikely life of luxury for a backpacker at the moment. I am staying at my aunt’s in a northern suburb of Perth. I have a double bed in my own room with a pool view and a private shower!!

I’ve been chauffeured about to some beautiful places already. So far I’ve made it to the Swan Valley, and explored some beautiful areas of beach and wetland outside of the City Centre. I hope you find this interesting/ of use if you’re planning to visit! Continue reading “Welcome to Perth: northern suburbs and the Swan Valley”
